Are US and China considering restricting access to AI memory chips: Bloomberg

According to Bloomberg's report, the Biden administration is discussing whether to further restrict China's access to memory chips used in artificial intelligence and devices used to manufacture those processors.
A person familiar with this news added that there is a possibility that a decision will be made as early as August. If that happens, there is a possibility that Micron (NASDAQ: MU), Samsung (OTCPK: SSNLF), and SK Hynix will not be able to supply broadband memory to Chinese companies. The ruling could affect HBM2, HBM3 and HBM3E chips, the news added.
Micron will hardly be affected because it has not sold HBM chips in China after the Chinese government banned the use of memory chips from critical infrastructure in 2023. Micron was also undergoing an on-site investigation by the country in order to review cybersecurity. In November, China's Minister of Commerce suggested that they are positive about expanding Micron's presence in the Chinese market as the thaw between the US and China progresses.
SK Hynix and Samsung design and manufacture chips using products such as Cadence Design Systems (CDNS) and Applied Materials (AMAT).
Micron announced in February that mass production of the HBM3E used in NVDA (NVDA) GPUs has begun.
