AT&T says the leaked data set will affect approximately 73 million current and former account holders

[Reuters] - Telecommunications company AT&T (NYSE:T) announced on Saturday that it is investigating data sets published on the “dark web” about 2 weeks ago, and preliminary analysis showed that it had affected approximately 7.6 million current account holders. There are 65.4 million original account holders.
The company stated that this data set appears to be from before 2019. AT&T said there was no evidence of unauthorized access to its systems due to this incident.
The company said it is still unclear whether the source of the data is AT&T or one of its vendors.
AT&T said the incident had no significant impact on the company's operations and that the source of the data is still being investigated.
AT&T has been in touch with all those affected and has reset passcodes for 7.6 million current customers. It was also stated that credit monitoring will be provided when applicable.
Wireless carriers' 5G networks cover approximately 290 million people across the United States.
AT&T went down in February, disrupting calls and text messages for thousands of US users and launching a federal investigation.
