The $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ ended the session 0.7 per cent lower, the second day of losses, and tracked a sombre mood across Asia.
Industrials and healthcare weighed the most on the main benchmark. Real estate and energy were the only two sectors that rose.
$Telstra Group Ltd (TLS.AU)$ stock fell 2.8 per cent after it shelved plans to sell a massive infrastructure business.
Battery metals developer $Core Lithium Ltd (CXO.AU)$ was the biggest laggard, down nearly 25 per cent after a $100 million share placement.
Mining giants reversed earlier losses, with $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$ ending flat and $Rio Tinto Ltd (RIO.AU)$ 1.1 per cent higher. The big four banks slipped with $National Australia Bank Ltd (NAB.AU)$ hit the most, down 2.1 per cent.
$Inghams Group Ltd (ING.AU)$ shares surged 14.8 per cent after reporting a 72 per cent jump in full-year net profit.
Shares in $Nuix Ltd (NXL.AU)$ tumbled 9.1 per cent. The company reduced its losses to $5.6 million for 2022, down from $22.8 million a year earlier.
