AU Evening Wrap | ASX Rises Modestly as Traders Weigh Risks Amid Geopolitical Tensions
The S&P/ASX 200 slightly rose 0.09% to finish at 8202.5, with real estate stocks propping up the index, while tech and health stocks dragged it down.
On the ASX, the real estate sector was the only one to see a move over 1%, rising 1.38%. Analysts at Barrenjoey raised price targets for real estate stocks, citing improved financing conditions for commercial properties in Australia. $Dexus (DXS.AU)$ was upgraded to an "overweight" rating, which was sending its shares up 3% to $7.81. In addition, $HMC Capital Ltd (HMC.AU)$ closed up 2.45%.
On the other hand, the energy sector did not carry forward its strong showing from yesterday. Falling oil prices and worries about global demand have weighed on energy stocks. Investors remain wary of the sector's volatility due to fluctuating commodity prices.
