AU Evening Wrap: Australia Shares Add 1.4% for Largest Gain Since July
$S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ closed 1.4% higher at 7105.9, surging to its largest one-day gain since July. The benchmark index jumped at the open after U.S. data showing cooling inflation had sent U.S. equities higher.
The ASX 200 held onto its gains even after the release of Australia data showing that local wages grew at a record pace over the 12 months through September, potentially adding to inflationary concerns.
The tech sector led gains, rising 3.35% as $WiseTech Global Ltd (WTC.AU)$ added 5.9% and $Life360 Inc (360.AU)$ put on 5.8% on improved annual Ebitda guidance. The materials sector, which accounts for about 25% of the ASX 200's market capitalization, put on 2.4% amid strength in lithium, gold and iron-ore stocks.
