AU Evening Wrap: Australia Shares Edge 0.1% Higher on Large-Cap Strength
$S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ closed 0.1% higher at 7665.1, edging to a third straight gain on strength among its large-cap lenders and miners.
The benchmark index opened higher despite a soft lead from U.S. equities at the end of last week and rallied from a brief afternoon dip into the red.
$Westpac Banking Corp (WBC.AU)$ led gains by banks, rising 2.7% after releasing 1Q results that featured better cost control than analysts had expected. $ANZ Group Holdings Ltd (ANZ.AU)$, $National Australia Bank Ltd (NAB.AU)$ and $CommBank (CBA.AU)$ added between 0.3% and 0.7%.
Property trusts was the worst-performing sector, shedding 2.3% as $Lendlease Group (LLC.AU)$ tumbled 14% following release of its 1H results.
