AU Evening Wrap: Australia Shares Fall 0.8% to Lowest Close in a Year

$S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ fell 0.8% to 6844.1 and its lowest close in a year. Seven of 11 sectors finished in the red following a weak lead from U.S. equities at the end of last week.

Commodity stocks led declines as the ASX 200 rounded out a third straight loss. Energy producers $Santos Ltd (STO.AU)$, $Karoon Energy Ltd (KAR.AU)$, $Woodside Energy Group Ltd (WDS.AU)$ and $Beach Energy Ltd (BPT.AU)$ shed between 2.5% and 4.1% amid lower oil prices. Coal miner $New Hope Corp Ltd (NHC.AU)$ traded ex-dividend and tumbled 8.5%. Lithium miners led materials-sector losses, while iron-ore companies $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$, $Rio Tinto Ltd (RIO.AU)$ and $Fortescue Ltd (FMG.AU)$ shed between 2.4% and 2.7%.

Banks $Westpac Banking Corp (WBC.AU)$, $ANZ Group Holdings Ltd (ANZ.AU)$ , $National Australia Bank Ltd (NAB.AU)$ and $CommBank (CBA.AU)$ lost between 0.1% and 0.9%.
