BHP and Union at Chilean Copper Mine Settle Minor Differences, Major Issues Remain Unresolved
BHP and the Spence Mine Workers Union in Chile have reportedly settled some minor differences, but major issues remain unresolved, according to union head Ronald Salcedo. The union represents over 1,100 workers at BHP's Spence copper mine in Chile. Mediated talks between the company and the union started on Wednesday and are expected to continue for the full five allotted business days, Salcedo told Bloomberg. However, if an agreement isn't reached by Tuesday, the workers can either extend the talks or strike the next day, according to Chilean labor laws.
