AU Evening Wrap: Australia Shares Rise 0.5% for Third Straight Gain
$S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ closed 0.5% higher at 6310.9 for its third straight gain. The benchmark index built on positive momentum from the U.S. to spend the whole of Tuesday's session in the black.
The heavyweight financial and materials sectors, which together comprise more than 50% of the ASX 200 by market capitalization, added 0.75% and 0.6%, respectively.
Banks $ANZ Group Holdings Ltd(ANZ.AU$, $CommBank(CBA.AU$, $Westpac Banking Corp(WBC.AU$ and $National Australia Bank Ltd(NAB.AU$ put on between 0.45% and 0.95%. Iron-ore miners $Fortescue Ltd(FMG.AU$ and $BHP Group Ltd(BHP.AU$ rose by 0.8% and 1.0%, respectively.
Property trusts and consumer discretionary stocks pared the overall gains.
