The Australian sharemarket barely took notice of a 5.2 per cent jump in inflation as last month's data was in line with expectations.
The benchmark $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ edged lower by 7.9 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 7030.3 at the closing bell. Nine of the 11 industry sectors ended up in the red. The All Ordinaries slipped 8.4 points to 7299.9.
Amid the prospect of a higher for longer cash rate in Australia, the interest rate-sensitive tech sector was the worst performing, extending its losses from Tuesday's decline.
$Life360 Inc (360.AU)$ shed 1.7 per cent, $WiseTech Global Ltd (WTC.AU)$ dropped 1.6 per cent and $Xero Ltd (XRO.AU)$ lost 1.3 per cent.
In company news, $The Star Entertainment Group Ltd (SGR.AU)$ shares plunged 15.3 per cent after the embattled casino operator raised $565 million in an institutional entitlement offer.
$Endeavour Group Ltd (EDV.AU)$ edged up 0.4 per cent. The liquor store chain operator's board recommended that its shareholders vote against the election of former Myer chairman Bill Wavish as an independent non-executive director.
The Australian Financial Review earlier revealed that Wavish was attempting a boardroom run at Endeavour with the support of the hotel and liquor chain group's biggest shareholder, Bruce Mathieson.
Shares in $Tamboran Resources Corp (TBN.AU)$ rallied 11.5 per cent after the Beetaloo Basin gas explorer booked its first estimate of resources.
Sleep devices company $ResMed Inc (RMD.AU)$ rallied 4.8 per cent and was among the best performers following a report from broker Goldman Sachs that it expected a smaller impact of weight loss drugs on the obstructive sleep apnea market.
