DavePhoenix : When I was a kid, my dad taught us budgeting using Monopoly money. Each week he would give us some money, and we had to pay off expenses like rent and groceries, with the goal of saving enough for fun things.
He showed me how to prioritize, plan, and even adapt to surprises using the 50/30/20 rule. Those lessons stuck with me. Even now, when I manage my finances, I remember those moments.

151452511 : As much as you can as often as you can...within reason! My dad taught me to invest every paycheck as soon as the money comes in, so you never have a chance to spend it. That way you are not tempted. It what he did his whole life and he's done well. As long as the S&P500 continues the way it has, a little bit every week should lead to a healthy retirement balance.
