Bank of Japan to normalize monetary policy, clarifying policy - Liberal Democratic People's Democratic Party Mr. Motegi makes an unusual statement

2024/7/23 14:23 JST (some excerpts)
Secretary General Motegi Toshimitsu of the Liberal Democratic Party expressed the idea that the Bank of Japan should clarify the direction of normalizing monetary policy. While attention is being paid to whether interest rates will be raised again at next week's decision meeting, this is an unusual statement.
Mr. Motegi, who is also discussing the possibility of running for the September presidential election, said in his lecture on the 22nd that “it is necessary to steadily advance policies in the direction of normalizing monetary policy, and to set out such policies more clearly.”
Digital Minister Taro Kono also pointed out the need for interest rate hikes last week, saying that yen is too cheap. Mr. Motegi did not clearly state that the Bank of Japan should raise interest rates at next week's decision meeting, but successive statements by leading members of parliament suggest that political dissatisfaction with the Bank of Japan, which continues the ultra-low interest rate policy that is the cause of rising import prices, is growing.
