Berjaya Corp Partners China's Skyworth, Skywell to Collaborate on Home Appliance, Electric Vehicles
Berjaya Corp Bhd (KL:BJCORP) said on Tuesday it has signed separate agreements with two Chinese firms to explore sales collaboration in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
The company will explore using its distribution network in Malaysia to boost the reach of home appliance maker Skyworth Group Co Ltd, Berjaya Corp said in a statement. The collaboration may also lead to the implementation of residential, commercial and industrial photovoltaic systems, it noted.
Berjaya Corp also agreed with electric vehicle maker Skywell New Energy Automobile Group Co Ltd to establish its brand in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. “This endeavour may include exploring strategic partnership to advance essential technologies and bolster the ecosystem in the country,” it said.
The strategic collaborations with Skyworth and Skywell are poised to revolutionise various sectors across Malaysia and Southeast Asia, Berjaya Corp founder and controlling shareholder Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun said in the statement.
“By combining our collective expertise and leveraging regional strengths, we stand at the forefront to catalyse innovation, foster sustainable development and illuminate the path towards a more prosperous future for the entire region,” Tan said at the signing ceremony.
Stephen Wong, the founder and controlling shareholder of both Skyworth and Skywell, said the cooperation will strengthen the talents and localisation of the entire industrial chain while creating landmark projects for China and Malaysia's trade cooperation.
"We also look forward to further promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Malaysia in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, and culture through this cooperation, as well as injecting new impetus into the formulation of a comprehensive strategic partnership between both countries," Wong said.
At 12pm, shares of Berjaya Corp were half a sen, or 1.64%, higher at 31 sen, valuing the group at RM1.82 billion.
