Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency, performed brilliantly on the second day of 2024, surging more than 5% in a single day, breaking through the $45,000 mark in one fell swoop.

$45,000 is the highest price since April 2022. Bitcoin surged, driving other cryptocurrencies to follow suit.

Bitcoin reached an intraday high of $45,488, a 21-month high.
