Bitcoin Gets Closer to $100k Than Ever | Wall Street Today
After a slow start, the S&P 500 was close to flat at the end of Wednesday. The major index climbed mid-day but then fell back to nearly unchanged. Bitcoin broke through all-time highs today before it too fell back to below $90k.
Just past 4 pm ET the $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ traded up 2 bps, the $Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI.US)$ climbed 0.11%, and the $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ fell 0.21%.
MACRO
The Consumer Price Index, a classic sign of inflation, showed that prices grew 2.6% year over year in October, about 0.2% higher than in September. Core CPI remained at 3.3%, excluding food and gas, right near where it has been for the past six months or so.
Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis President Neel Kashkari said the top figures from the latest consumer price report confirm inflation is headed down toward the central bank’s 2% target.
In macroeconomics this week, look for Fed speakers finally taking to the airwaves to talk about monetary policy, a week after cutting rates by 25 bps. Powell will speak on Thursday. Also, watch for Producer Price Index inflation numbers on Thursday.

$Bitcoin (BTC.CC)$ hit fresh highs, gold and silver both fell. $U.S. 2-Year Treasury Notes Yield (US2Y.BD)$ fell and the $U.S. 10-Year Treasury Notes Yield (US10Y.BD)$ climbed, but both sat at highs since August and July.
MOOVERS
$JetBlue Airways (JBLU.US)$ climbed 9% after a Bloomberg report that $American Airlines (AAL.US)$ and the firm still wants to team up even after a court threw out their last Northeast Alliance plan, according to American Chief Isom and JetBlues President St. George.
$Rivian Automotive (RIVN.US)$ climbed 13%, leading moomoo's list of 'WallStreetBets' stocks, after the firm received more money from Volkswagen, now totaling $5.8B, and increasing the confidence of some analysts like Wedbush, that shared notes about the funding Wednesday.
$Paymentus Holdings (PAY.US)$ climbed 27% after better-than-expected earnings Tuesday night, with revenue of $231M that grew 51% year-over-year.
Shares of $Quantum Computing (QUBT.US)$ nearly doubled 90% after the firm reported its first chip order.
$Spirit Airlines (SAVE.US)$ shares plunged 56% on Wednesday after the company filed Form 12b-25, stating to the SEC it would not be able to file its current report, and instead would focus on restructuring debt.
$Rocket Lab (RKLB.US)$ climbed 28% after the tiny rocket firm reported better-than-expected earnings.
