Black Friday is coming. One more thing to buy in!

Hey mooers!
While Black Friday 2024 officially starts on November 29, numerous retailers such as $Amazon (AMZN.US)$, $Best Buy (BBY.US)$, $Walmart (WMT.US)$, and $Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (CTC.A.CA)$ have already launched their Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions.
This shopping event offers excellent chances to save money on holiday-related items like Christmas presents, advent calendars, and stocking fillers. Additionally, Canadian consumers can find significant discounts on a wide range of products, including technology, home goods, outdoor equipment, and more.
You won't want to miss this!
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently unveiled a temporary tax break on certain products and services, lasting two months, with the aim of stimulating the domestic retail industry. This raises the question: Could this tax relief initiative intensify the already anticipated shopping rush and potentially boost the performance of our local retail stocks?
Canadians enjoy shopping at $Walmart (WMT.US)$ and $Costco (COST.US)$, while the three major local retailers, $Loblaw Companies Ltd (L.CA)$, $Empire Co Ltd (EMP.A.CA)$, $Metro Inc (MRU.CA)$ command significant market shares. $Dollarama Inc (DOL.CA)$, Canada's biggest retailer of items for five dollars or less, is also quite popular among consumers.

Black Friday is coming. One more thing to buy in!
In face of such a big event, let's see some mooers' ideas!
My Black Friday's Shopping List + Stock Tips

Shopping list:

– iPhone 16 Pro Max + phone case

– 50 inch 4K TV + TV stand

– Book shelf

– Curtain

– Bathroom fan

None of these items is eligible for the holiday tax break. So I will probably just make the purchase during Black Friday.

Stock tips:

I don't usually pick individual stock because I am a index fund investor. But if I were to pick one stock for this holiday season, I would pick $Aritzia Inc (ATZ.CA)$ because it has a strong brand and is very popular among teenagers and young adults. Its stores usually have more foot traffic compared to other clothing stores, and I expect this company to post strong sales number in Q4 2024.
What's your view about Black Friday? Do you think it's a good opportunity to trade and invest as well? What stocks are you eyeing recently?

  • Jason Fung : I don't normally trade on Black Friday as I will be too busy browsing hot deals and making purchases online. I often go to the mall on the weekend after Black Friday to see if there are any good in-store only sales. If I see a store that sells a particularly popular product or with abnormally high foot traffic, I will make a mental note and research the company afterward.

  • 102362254 : Black Friday has risks like excess stock and supply issues, but how companies handle them can give some guidance. It's good for trading, but the real value lies in spotting long-term trends. I prefer to stay focused on the big picture

  • Meme_Short_Queen : my view is that you don't impulse buy stuff just cu they are on sale, and I never trade BF theme stocks.

  • Antonio Sze-To : Given the strong market performance in US, along with Black Friday/Thanksgiving/Cyber Monday, it is an opportunity to buy US retail companies to speculate on Q4 earnings.

Given the low GDP growth of Canada, I do not think we should buy Canadian companies.

  • StefM : Chasing the news or trends is always risky. most information is already integrated in the price. you are late to the game more often than not...

  • wangts : I will consider trading on Black Friday next year. I've been too busy this year.

  • Mrstocksplitsundae : nope Justin is the grinch that stole Christmas I'm surprised he didn't call a lockdown for some ridiculous reason ... climate change , fake outbreak.  or that his feelings are hurt..... or because it hurts feelings of non Christians take your pick..    no mail services.  shipping and rail on strike etc....

  • COCO 2024 : 1. I want to change my phone and compare deals
    2. Buy a larger refrigerator and place it in the basement
    3. Purchase Christmas gifts 🎁 and decorations
    4. During Christmas or New Year's, go on a trip to treat yourself.

  • COCO 2024 : In December, you can buy stocks of NIKE, GAP, and LULU for short-term speculation.

  • 72562669 : Costco is going to benefit over other player in this Black Friday , it way too busy than another shops.
