In April I started to buy some reits. At that point in time, there was already talk of a possible Fed interest rate cut in June. When the rate cut did not materialise, there was a sell off during July. As a newbie investor, I saw my stocks drop by around $6k in value. At that point in time, I was quite disappointed. I could either sell and cut loss or average down. I’m glad I made the right choice. But why did I decide to do so? This was because reit prices were at multi year lows. Also since I would be getting dividends, why not just hold on? 3 months on, my patience has paid off! Reits are actually really good long term investments, even when prices drop, you can use the dividends to buy more so that when it rises again, you gain even more.
