Chances of Prime Minister Netanyahu agreeing to a cease-fire are “almost zero”
Al Jazeera's senior political analyst Marwan Bishara says America is close to the November election and doesn't want a regional escalation.
Washington, along with other intermediaries, is lobbying for the Gaza cease-fire talks on August 15 to be an indication that they want to put as much pressure on Iran as possible and delay a possible attack on Israel, he says.
But Bishara added that the chances of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu agreeing to a cease-fire were “almost equal to zero.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu is not only “ideologically and personally inclined to war,” but it is also said that Israel's coalition government has been maintained due to the conflict.
The Hamas side, he says, will seek real guarantees that the war will not continue, that reconstruction will be permitted, and that Israeli soldiers will withdraw from the Gaza Strip.
