China's electricity demand surges due to technology and EVs

In the first half of 2024, it became clear from data from the China Electric Power Commission that China's electricity consumption in the data service industry and charging/battery services increased rapidly, driven by technology and electric vehicles.
According to data quoted by China Daily, data center, big data, cloud computingWhat is the electricity consumption in33% surge between January and June compared to the same period in 2023I did it.
Charging and battery replacement servicesChina's electricity consumption forSurge 63.7% over the same periodJiang Debin, the council's deputy director of statistics and data centers, told China Daily.
The council announced that China's overall electricity demand will increase by about 6.5% this year compared to 2023.
The new installed capacity combined with grid-connected wind power generation and solar power generation has reached about 0.3 billion kilowatts, and it is predicted that the cumulative installed capacity share will exceed 40% for the first time.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) announced in the “Electricity Midyear Update Report” announced earlier this month that China's electricity demand in 2023 will increase 6.4%, driven by the service sector and the industrial sector.
China's per capita electricity consumption has already surpassed that of the European Union (EU) as of the end of 2022, and the agency says it will increase further in the future.
The IEA points out that “while the structure of the Chinese economy evolves as production of photovoltaic modules and electric vehicles rapidly expands and processing of related materials progresses, a continuous increase in electricity demand is expected.”
Despite the continuous increase in coal-fired power generation, due to increased output from hydroelectric power, solar power, and wind power,The ratio of coal to electricity generation fell below 60% for the first time in historyAs a result, China reached a revolutionary milestone in clean energy in the first half of this year.
As China's demand for electricity expanded, the output of coal-fired power generation continued to rise, as did all other sources. However, the increase in coal-fired power generation was much larger than the increase in hydropower and solar power generation.
