China expresses dissatisfaction with the new export controls imposed by the Netherlands on ASML chip manufacturing equipment.
Beijing, Reuters, 8th.
In a statement on the 8th, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed dissatisfaction with the decision by the Dutch government to expand export restrictions on ASML's chip manufacturing equipment and to open a new version of its tab.
On Friday, the Dutch government announced the expansion of export permit requirements for ASML's 1970i and 1980i DUV (Deep Ultraviolet) immersion lithography systems, aligning them with the export control regulations that the United States unilaterally imposed on these devices last year.
Beijing has repeatedly criticized Washington's strategy of pressuring allied countries like the Netherlands and Japan to participate in export restrictions on China's cutting-edge chips and chip manufacturing equipment.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated in response to Friday's announcement by the Dutch government, "In recent years, in order to maintain global hegemony, the United States has been coercing specific countries to strengthen export restrictions on semiconductors and related equipment. China firmly opposes this."
The Ministry further added that the Netherlands should avoid abusing export restrictions and taking measures that undermine Sino-Dutch cooperation in semiconductors, and should protect the "common interests of Chinese and Dutch companies."
Due to lobbying efforts by the United States, the export of ASML's state-of-the-art lithography systems, the world's largest chip manufacturing equipment vendor, to China has been effectively blocked.
Dutch Trade Minister Reinette Klever stated on Friday that this decision was made "for our security."
