Construction of a second plant begins in Kumamoto, Taiwan's TSMC will be in operation for 27 years
On the 26th, we learned in interviews with stakeholders that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), the world's largest semiconductor contract manufacturer that has expanded into Kumamoto prefecture, has begun construction work on the site of the second factory to be built in Kikuyo-cho in the same prefecture. Construction of the building will begin later this year as originally scheduled, and it is planned to be put into operation by the end of 2027.
Plant 2 is adjacent to the east side of Plant 1, which opened in February this year. According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the site area is expected to be about 321,000 square meters, which is about 1.5 times that of Plant 1. The investment amount is approximately 2.2 trillion yen, and the Japanese government will subsidize a maximum of 732 billion yen.
We will also produce products equivalent to a circuit line width of 6 to 7 nanometers (nano is 1/1 billion), which is a more advanced product than Plant 1, which will begin mass production from October to December this year.
