Coronavirus vaccine saved lives - European study results
We now know that the novel coronavirus vaccine has saved the lives of many people. This is the result of European researchers investigating the period from 2020/12 to 2023/3.
The study estimated how many lives were saved by vaccination in 34 European countries and regions. It is reported that approximately 1.6 million lives were saved as a result. This represents a 59% reduction in the number of deaths compared to when there was no vaccine.
What is particularly interesting is that most of the lives saved were elderly people. People aged 60 and over made up 96%, and people over 80 alone accounted for 52%. From this, it can be seen that vaccination of the elderly was particularly important.
It also became clear that the first booster dose (booster vaccination) was very effective. More than half of the lives saved were due to this booster vaccination. Furthermore, it was found that 60% of lives were saved during the period when the Omicron variant was popular.
The results of this study once again show the importance of vaccines against the novel coronavirus. In particular, the importance of continuing the latest vaccinations for the elderly and people at high risk of infection has been emphasized. Going forward, it can be said that it is important to continue public health measures, including vaccination.
