Cyber attack on US Microchip Technology interferes with some operations

The semiconductor manufacturer US Microchip Technology announced on the 20th that since the server was subject to a cyber attack, part of the system was stopped, and operations were hindered.
　　According to documents submitted to the authorities, the company detected suspicious movements against IT (information technology) systems on the 17th of this month. Two days later, the company concluded that “specific servers and businesses” were damaged by unauthorized intrusion due to cyber attacks. The company supplies semiconductors to the US defense industry.

This attack occurred as countries fought for a dominant position in the semiconductor market for national security reasons and to avoid supply chain disruptions that surfaced during the novel coronavirus pandemic (global pandemic) period.
　　Microchip Technology explained that it has taken countermeasures such as isolating affected systems and stopping specific systems. As a result, operations became “below normal level,” and response to orders was affected.
