Day 4: Lightning didnt strike twice ⚡️⚡️
TLDR - tried a thing, did not work 😢
Context: Moomoo’s Papertrading ends 3 Oct, which meant I had to maintain 1st place for 4 more days (at start of Fri).
Logic: I observed the leaderboard & fluctuation patterns, noting the table toppers were mostly long China.
However on Tue, we had a sizeable correction (5-8%) post-Mon rush (which in fact, caused much grief in our competitors’ Whatsapp chat 😂)
Action: With my slim 2% lead, I unloaded all positions & my itchy fingers struck, i went 40% bear china with $Direxion Daily FTSE China Bear 3X Shares ETF (YANG.US)$
Result: Turns out lightning didnt strike twice 😵 $PDD Holdings (PDD.US)$ opened +6% $NIO Inc (NIO.US)$ +10% at trading start, I was down -4% and sank to 6th place.
Everyone else notched +5% more but I backslided 😢😢
Looking back, the smart thing to do might have been to mimic everyone’s portfolio ~ if rise, all rise / if crash, all crash 🤝🤝
Guess that’s how professional fund managers would do - replicate their benchmark index
Recovery: Held firm on my china bear belief (somewhat paid off as $Direxion Daily FTSE China Bear 3X Shares ETF (YANG.US)$ ended -2.6% vs start of day at -4%)
Recovery 2: Felt US semicon was overbought (esp after Micron rally) and went bear for $Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bear 3x Shares ETF (SOXS.US)$ - which saved the day +4.7% 😮💨😮💨
Been seeing all the news on Israel x Hezbollah and a wider conflict seems imminent - so I went long energy $Direxion Daily Energy Bull 2X Shares ETF (ERX.US)$
Final result: Recovery actions paid off, maintained a positive P&L on Day 4, albeit starting the day in the red 🥳🥳
