Delta Struggles To Resume Operations As Crews Unable To Connect With Flights.
Last Friday’s computer meltdown, that grounded flights and crippled global operating systems, continues to undermine operations at Delta Air Lines $Delta Air Lines (DAL.US)$ as the carrier struggles to get planes back in the air.

The latest dilemma for the airline centers on its inability to connect flight attendants and pilots with planes through its crew tracking system. The problem is not only stranding passengers, but crews as well, unable to find flights back to their home bases.

“The problems will continue for at least a few more days,” Delta chief information officer Rahul Samant warned employees in a message on Monday cited by CNN.

Answering the call to distressed passengers, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is opening an investigation into Delta (DAL) to make sure the carrier is following U.S. transportation law and compensating passengers adequately.

“We want to hear from passengers who believe that Delta has not complied with USDOT-enforced passenger protection requirements,” Buttigieg tweeted on X.

Since Friday’s outage, Delta (DAL) continues to cancel and delay flights with another 12% cut Tuesday morning and another 12% of Tuesday’s scheduled flights delayed, according to FlightAware with the majority originating at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. This compares to other airlines that were impacted by the CrowdStrike/Microsoft outage including American Airlines $American Airlines (AAL.US)$ , currently operating with no cancellations and only 9% of its flights delayed. United $United Airlines (UAL.US)$ has had to cancel just 1% of Tuesday’s flights, delaying 4%.

Delta (DAL) shares are in the red for a second day with the share price down 4.5% since Friday. The stock is currently flirting with support at its 200-day moving average.
