Delta to open Airbus A330 pilot base at Boston Logan International Airport

American airline Delta Air Lines will open a pilot base in Boston. This new base will be established by the airline for the first time in a long time, and will be assigned to the airline's A330 pilots. The airline has recently made significant investments in hubs.

Delta Air Lines is one of the Big 4 companies in the US, and has strategically placed hubs and bases at various airports, showing a large presence across the United States. In an internal memo from Delta Air Lines flight operations shared on X, Delta Air Lines pilots received news that an A330 pilot base will be established at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

In this memo, it is also explained that this is the first time in a long time that an airline company will establish a new base other than an existing hub airport, and that it will be a convenient location for pilots based in New England.

The memo concludes that this development is part of the airline's continued commitment to BOS and the communities that the market serves.

Boston is a major hub airport on the east coast of the United States. Delta has operated from Boston Airport for nearly 20 years, and the airport is the airline's main hub for transatlantic flights.

According to The Points Guy, the airline officially designated BOS as one of its hub airports in 2019, and immediately focused on expanding its business. By 2021, Delta Air Lines suppressed JetBlue and became the largest operator at the same airport, and in 2022, it was decided that BOS would be the operating base for transatlantic flights after New York (JFK).

Delta has positioned itself as a strong competitor to JetBlue and American Airlines, and continues to increase its presence at airports. Delta Air Lines opened the long-awaited Delta One Lounge at JFK Airport last month, and plans to open 4 new premium lounges at each American airport, including Boston.

Delta Air Lines will also launch seasonal direct flights from Boston to Honolulu in November this year, making it the airline's longest domestic route.
