$Destiny Tech100 (DXYZ.US)$ As of November 19, 2024, SpaceX successfully conducted the sixth Starship flight test. The launch took place at the Boca Chica spaceport in Texas at 4:00 p.m. Central Time (6:00 a.m. on November 20 in Beijing). Following the launch, the Super Heavy booster successfully placed the Starship into the intended orbit. However, the planned attempt to capture the booster with the "Mechazilla" robotic arm was canceled for undisclosed reasons after four minutes of flight, causing the booster to splash down in the Gulf of Mexico. The Starship completed a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean after a low Earth orbit flight.

The main objectives of this test include verifying the ignition capability of the starship's engines in orbit and the performance of the heat shield system. Despite the unsuccessful attempt to capture the booster, the overall test is still considered an important step towards a fully reusable rocket system. SpaceX plans to lower the cost of future space missions through these tests and lay the groundwork for future moon and Mars missions.
