Did Intel lose to AMD in the competition to develop the chip for PlayStation 6?
September 17, 2024 (excerpt)
There is a possibility that the giant in the declining semiconductor industry, Intel, may have failed to win the contract for the chip design and manufacturing of the next-generation game console, PlayStation 6 (PS6). This contract is reported to be around 30 billion dollars (4 trillion yen), and could be a significant blow to Intel's contract manufacturing business.
According to Reuters, Sony conducted a bidding for the design and manufacturing of the PS6 chip in 2022, with multiple semiconductor companies participating. Ultimately, it was narrowed down to Intel and AMD. Broadcom was also initially a candidate but was reportedly eliminated in the final stage.
