DJT $50 Call Options Fly Off Shelves After Failed Assassination Attempt on Trump
Investors and speculators are piling onto $Trump Media & Technology(DJT.US$ options that give the holders the right to purchase the stock at $50 by the end of this week, implying optimism of further upside for Truth Social's parent company.
DJT shares skyrocketed more than 30% to $40.69 amid increasing speculation that the failed assasination attempt on its biggest shareholder, former President Donald Trump, would boost his chances of beating President Joe Biden in the November presidential election and give the Republicans a bump in the polls.
More than 20,000 of those $50 calls changed hands as of 10:46 a.m. in New York Monday, almost quadruple the open interest of 5,660. Volume jumped from just 240 contracts last Friday when the stock closed at $30.89. The price of those calls soared 1393% to more than $2.
Despite the steep gains in DJT shares, there's still no obvious signal from the collective view of technical indicators tracked by moomoo. Six of those indicators are signaling that the stock could be overbought and the trend may turn bearish, while another six are neutral. Only three are flashing bullish signs. The stock price has crossed above the middle line of the Bollinger band, seen below, which is viewed by some technicians that the stock could turn bullish.
Despite the jump, capital trend data tracked by moomoo showed fund outflows from the stock still outpaced inflows by $31.76 million. The stock is still in course for another monthly net outflow for July.
