$Dollar Tree (DLTR.US)$ this really shows the state of the economy doesn't it? when a company like Dollar tree miss revenues by this significant what is that really tell you about consumers spending of discretionary income. I'm sure theft is part of the problem but what are you going to do lock down every single item behind a plexiglass cover to prevent thefts? they cannot do what Ross and tj Maxx do, which is have undercover security dressed as regular people women men all ages walking around the stores looking for theft. it works for these stores because their daily revenue intake can justify the expense of having multiple security guards dressed as regular people walking around catching thieves it doesn't work and would not work at a low price per ticket item store like Dollar tree.

Nidia_Girl : Actually theft isn't a problem that has changed , I looked into a lot of these companies numbers and noticed they claim to have a theft problem but it can't be defined because they also use damaged product/ unsold product and out of date product as shrinkage as it is defined ! So it's how these companies hide their losses by claiming it's theft when in reality their clearance and outdated product loss has risen !
10baggerbamm OP Nidia_Girl : there's hundreds and hundreds of videos of people walking out the stores carrying armfuls of goods pushing carts and not paying for it the policy of this company is not to pursue Chase or have any type of conflict with individuals like this. that is an enormous problem it represents a significant amount of losses because they want to use what's called honey pot accounting and change how something is categorized that's really closer to Enron accounting than anything else. a loss is a loss if it's theft that's not a damaged good if it's theft it's not outdated merchandise it's theft and a represents a loss of 100%. and I know people will say well if somebody drops a can of soup it's dented they throw it away they're not going to sell a dented can of soup so what's the difference between that and when somebody walks out the store well you're going to have far less dented cans of soup that you write off as compared to theft.. start somewhere theft is an enormous problem it's the different between many companies earning a profit versus generating a loss. Ross stores and TJ Maxx have all but resolved theft and it's a very expensive proposition that they are using by having undercover individuals that look like regular Joe consumers walking around the stores and catching people and cuffing them in the act.
MonkeyGee : no, there are more jobs than ever, says the man on the hill. all the revenue over the past 3 years is due to inflation and not true increase in revenue. now that rates are going down, revenue will follow.
10baggerbamm OP MonkeyGee : man on the hill? you mean on the beach don't you..
Nidia_Girl 10baggerbamm OP : I respect your input , and I will use my own Data to analyze what I see .. Regardless the outcome is the same and these companies are losing
