The European Union (EU) European Commission has strengthened suspicions that the US Amazon.com violated the “Digital Market Act (DMA)” by preferential treatment of the handling of its own brand products, and it is expected that a formal investigation will begin next year. Multiple stakeholders with direct knowledge of the case revealed it to Reuters.
In DMA, which is a law that suppresses the market dominance of major IT companies, there is a possibility that companies that have been investigated will be fined up to 10% of annual sales worldwide if violations are determined.
Spain's Teresa Rivera will take office next month in place of senior vice chairman Vestair, who leads competition policy. According to officials, it is expected that Mr. Rivera will make decisions such as when to begin the investigation by the European Commission within the next few months.
