After today's good financial results, it feels like we have finally emerged from a long tunnel.
Looking back, the overheating feeling of semiconductors that has been ongoing since the beginning of the year eased in mid-June, and semiconductor stocks as a whole significantly dropped from their highs.
The next day, despite Micron's earnings announcement being sound, due to excessive market expectations and the weakness in the semiconductor sector, selling pressure intensified further, leading to a drop of about 10%.
Although holding up until mid-July, concerns about economic downturn increased in the second half of the month, leading to further selling pressure, and August also stagnated near the bottom. During this time, compared to other semiconductor stocks, led by Nvidia, the decline was relatively large and continued to frustrate investors with narrow gains during the rising phase.
In September, there was some recovery due to a 50 basis points rate cut and expectations for a soft landing. Recently, there was an upward trend due to a reevaluation of AI-related investments and expectations for the next term's financial results, with a pre-rise of about 15% following this good financial report.
As mentioned above, a period of adversity lasted for a long time, but finally coming out of a long tunnel, it will be interesting to see how far it can rise towards the end of the year.
Personally, after purchasing new shares following the previous earnings, I felt there was still significant downside potential due to various factors. Therefore, I decided to sell once and then resumed purchasing during the downturn. Although I may have invested prematurely, having bought heavily near the lows allowed me to somewhat benefit from dollar-cost averaging. After the good financial results, I made a small additional purchase this morning.
Considering the high likelihood of future policy rate cuts and the fact that things have been oversold so far, I believe we can expect further increases towards the end of the year. This is my main scenario at the moment, so I plan to continue watching patiently.
