France's unemployment rate rises to 20-month high

The number of people registered as unemployed in mainland France increased by 0.01 million8,300 compared to the previous month in 2024/6 to 2.83 million5,000.

This is the second consecutive month of increase, and France's unemployment rate is at its highest level since 2022/10, challenging recent strength in the French and European job markets.

Looking at each age group, the unemployment rate for the core age group increased by 0.01 million1,700 to 1.65 million8,000, and increased by 4,100 to 0.39 million4,000 in the younger age group.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for the elderly increased by 2,500 to 0.72 million3,000.
