Friday the 13th Ends with Flat S&P 500 | Wall Street Today
The market was mixed Friday, with a tech climb bringing the Nasdaq to fresh highs. The S&P 500 was dead flat Friday, while the Dow fell.
Just past 4 pm ET the $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ closed flat the $Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI.US)$ fell 0.20%, and the $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ climbed 0.12%.
MACRO
In macro, trade index numbers arrived from the U.S. Department of Labor. Prices, both export and import came in above estimates for November.
All eyes look forward to the FOMC's next rate decision meeting next Wednesday, Dec 18.
SECTORS
Elsewhere in the economy, $Crude Oil Futures(APR5) (CLmain.US)$ were above $70. Gold and silver fell, and treasuries climbed. $Bitcoin (BTC.CC)$ was above 100k.
MOOVERS
$Broadcom (AVGO.US)$ climbed upwards of 20%, the highest reaching percentage climber on the S&P 500 after the firm reported earnings that beat estimates Thursday, with revenue that climbed 51% from a year ago. AAI revenue for the fiscal year climbed 220%. The climb sent the stock to over $1T in market cap valuation.
The good news lifted stocks in the sector, including $Micron Technology (MU.US)$. $Marvell Technology (MRVL.US)$ was up 9%, trailing Broadcom for the second place spot in climbers on the Nasdaq 100, climbing on the positive forward guidance its major rival Broadcom gave last night.
$Restoration Hardware (RH.US)$ shares are up 14% after the company reported strong Q3 results on Wednesday and increased its full-year revenue growth estimate.
$TaskUs (TASK.US)$ shares were up more than 13% in recent Friday trading after Morgan Stanley upgraded the company's stock to overweight from equal-weight and raised its price target to $21 from $18.
On the downside, $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ and $Meta Platforms (META.US)$ dropped more than 3% and nearly 2%, respectively while $Amazon (AMZN.US)$ shares are off 1%.
