Gamuda Alliance Bags RM5bil Rail Signalling Project in Perth
Gamuda Bhd via a joint venture with a unit of Paris-listed Alstom France has been awarded a A$1.6bil (RM5bil) project by the public transport authority of Western Australia to upgrade and maintain the train control systems on Perth's rail networks.
In a statement, the construction and engineering group said the 10-year contract for the Metronet High-Capacity Signalling Project was secured by its wholly-owned Australian subsidiary, DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd, and Alstom France's Australian rail solutions arm, Alstom Transport Australia Pty Limited.
The collaboration is 46% owned by DT Infrastructure with the remaining 54% belonging to Alstom Transport.
According to Gamuda, Alstom Transport is a multinational company headquartered in France, with a strong global presence in the rail transport sector.
Under the terms of the contract, works include designing, supplying, testing, commissioning and maintaining the state-of-art Urbalis communications-based train control on Perth’s suburban rail networks.
Additionally, the alliance will be responsible for upgrading the existing signalling and control systems to an integrated communications-based train control system.
Gamuda said the project is to be delivered in multiple line-by-line stages to minimise disruption to train operators.
"The Metronet High-Capacity Signalling Project will modernise Perth’s train signalling system, boosting network capacity by 40%, enhancing energy efficiency, ensuring cybersecurity, and future-proofing the system for growth, all with minimal disruption to commuters and delivering significant long-term socio-economic benefits to the community," it said.
The project is expected to contribute positively to the revenue and earnings of Gamuda Group for the financial year ending July 31, 2025.
