According to a report by the Financial Times on Friday, British ministers gave the go-ahead for the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) with Italy and Japan during a meeting on Tuesday, putting an end to concerns that this major project might fall victim to the Labour Party's new government's strategic defence review. The formal announcement of the multi-billion pound fighter plane project, in which Leonardo, the UK's BAE Systems (BAES.L), Rolls-Royce (RR.L), and Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (7011.T) are participating, is expected to take place in the coming weeks, as reported.
