The cloud divisions of Google and Microsoft, which are under the umbrella of Alphabet, provide Chinese companies with access to semiconductors for artificial intelligence (AI) from US semiconductor giant NVIDIA through data center services outside of China. The US IT news site “The Information” reported on the 17th.
Alphabet, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and the Department of Commerce have not responded to Reuters requests for comment at this time.
According to reports, Microsoft provides server rental services including servers equipped with NVIDIA's most advanced semiconductors “A100” and “H100” to Chinese customer companies through data centers outside of China. Google also allows Chinese client companies to use servers installed outside mainland China, and it is said that Google is convinced that this service complies with US export restrictions.
