GPT-4o Faces Skepticism from Musk and Karpathy
OpenAI's product capabilities are still underestimated. This company truly has the ability to transform a bunch of "obvious" technologies into a stunning product, as was the case with Sora, and now with GPT-4o Voice Mode.
You could argue that OpenAI is not focused on its core business, not fully committed to enhancing the reasoning capabilities of its models, but rather spreading its resources to explore productization. (This indeed leaves one puzzled about their AGI vision.)
When Sora and GPT-4o Voice Mode's technologies were revealed, industry experts often said, "Oh, it's just DiT, ViT, VAE, or end-to-end text, vision, and audio models." But no one had previously created similar products, and even after they were launched, it was difficult for others to catch up in terms of effectiveness.
Now, there are those like Musk and Karpathy who are skeptical of GPT-4o, believing that it's not technically outstanding and even suggesting that OpenAI has entered a phase of producing "cheap" products.
But what's wrong with that? After all, greatness cannot be planned.
