$Grab Holdings (GRAB.US)$ The biggest problem is that the market is too small. Even if we dominate Southeast Asia, it is not a particularly large market. Additionally, Donghai's market cap is not high, unless there is a bull market. Another potential concern is that I'm worried Meituan will expand into the Southeast Asian market and compete with Grab. This is not impossible, as they have already entered the Hong Kong market, so entering Southeast Asia is only a matter of time.

  • Red Guppy : Meituan, one of China's leading e-commerce platforms specializing in food delivery, retail, and other lifestyle services, has made some attempts to expand into overseas markets, but its focus remains largely on its domestic operations. Here's an overview of Meituan's presence and strategy in overseas markets:

    ### 1. **Limited Overseas Expansion:**
      - Meituan has not aggressively expanded into overseas markets like some other Chinese tech companies (e.g., Alibaba or Tencent).
      - The company has explored opportunities in neighboring markets and regions with a large Chinese diaspora, such as Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and some cities in Japan.

    ### 2. **Strategic Partnerships:**
      - In some cases, Meituan has formed partnerships with local companies rather than directly competing. For instance, it has provided technology or logistical support to local firms.

    ### 3. **Challenges:**
      - The competitive nature of global markets, where companies like Uber Eats, Grab, and Deliveroo are already well-established, makes it challenging for Meituan to penetrate without significant investment.
      - Regulatory and cultural differences also present challenges in replicating their domestic success overseas.

    ### 4. **Focus on Domestic Growth:**
      - Meituan has chosen to prioritize consolidating its leadership position in the Chinese market, where it faces stiff competition from platforms like Alibaba's Ele.me.
      - The company has been expanding its services within China, moving beyond food delivery to include grocery delivery, travel, and hotel booking services.

    ### 5. **Possible Future Moves:**
      - While the company has not ruled out further international expansion, any such moves would likely be cautious and involve partnerships rather than direct competition.

Overall, Meituan's strategy in overseas markets has been conservative, focusing mainly on solidifying its domestic market dominance.
