2024/8/20 20:34 JST (some excerpts)
German Chancellor Scholz and European Commission President von der Leyen attended
70% investment in TSMC - 10% each from Infineon, NXP, and Bosch
Construction of the first European factory for Taiwan Integrated Circuit Manufacturing (TSMC), the largest contract manufacturer of semiconductors, has begun in Dresden in eastern Germany. As tensions between the US and China increase, the European Union (EU) has a policy of protecting semiconductor supply within the region.
German Chancellor Scholz attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the factory on the 20th and stated, “We rely on semiconductors for sustainable future technology, but we must not depend on other regions of the world for semiconductor supply.” The Dresden plant is 10 billion euros (about 1,620 billion yen) in size, but about half of the funds are covered by state subsidies.
