Hamas and PFLP emphasize “national unity” after Doha talks

Hamas and leaders of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) met today in the capital of Qatar on the sidelines of an event commemorating the assassinated Hamas Political Director Ismail Hanier.

The Hamas side chose Chairman Yahya Singwal of Gaza as the new political director, and in a statement, it is stated that the relationship between the two Palestinian movements “has been strengthened over the past few years due to shared and convergent visions on national issues, resistance projects, and the Palestinian issue in general.”

Furthermore, it is said that both movements agreed on the need to “go beyond the state of stagnation where national reality has been stalled for years, stop the war of extinction, establish a Palestinian nation with full sovereignty, with Jerusalem as its capital, and the right to return Palestinian refugees.”

This is amid Palestine's broader push for unity that led to an agreement signed by 14 groups in Beijing, China.
