Hamas appoints Yahya Shinwar as new leader after Ismail Hanye's murder
According to Hamas, Yahya Shinwar, the top executive in Gaza, was selected as the new leader of the Politburo.
Mr. Shinwal's election came after Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran on July 31.
“The Islamic resistance movement Hamas has announced that it has elected Commander Yahya Singwal as the political bureau chief to replace the martyr Ismail Haneh.
61-year-old Shinwal was determined by IsraelThe mastermind of the October 7 attack by Hamas in Israeli territoryIt is regarded as.
Israel's subsequent military operation in Gaza killed nearly 0.04 million Palestinians (thousands of them women and children), evacuated almost the entire population of 2.3 million, and caused an unprecedented humanitarian crisis of widespread starvation and health emergencies.
Israel's attacks have also been accompanied by reports of systematic rights violations, such as the torture of Palestinian prisoners.
Gaza takes the lead
There is almost no doubt that the assassination of Hanye was a crime by Israel shocked this region, and many people see it as an effort by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu administration to stall efforts in cease-fire negotiations where Hanye was the central figure.
Analysts say that the fact that Shinwal, who has barely been seen since the October 7 attacks, replaced him shows that Gaza occupies a central position in the group's political vision.
“He (Shinhal) has suddenly risen to an influential position in Hamas and is leading Gaza. Hamas chose him as its leader, putting Gaza at the forefront of not only the events on the ground, but also the dynamics of the Hamas movement,” Nur Ode, a Palestinian political analyst living in Ramallah, told Al Jazeera.
“And it will send a signal that Gaza is in the lead when it comes to cease-fire negotiations.”
Hezbollah welcomed Shinwar's inauguration late Tuesday, saying it was a strong message to Israel and the United States and an indication that Hamas was united in making decisions.
“Choosing a brother named Yahya Singwal from the center of the besieged Gaza Strip is to stand on the front lines of resistance and being among the children of the people under rubble, blockade, slaughter, and starvation, and reaffirms that the goal sought by the enemy by killing their leader has failed,” the group said in a statement.
