Hawaiian Airlines in Free Fall, Drops 11%

$Hawaiian Holdings (HA.US)$ dropped more than 13% Monday, leading the way for a sector decline. Airline company shares are trading lower despite record Thanksgiving travel numbers, according to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA.) $JetBlue Airways (JBLU.US)$ , $United Airlines (UAL.US)$ , and American dropped more than 1%. Frontier fell 3%, Virgin Galactic fell 5%.
American, Delta, and United reported millions of Thanksgiving flyers. American and Delta posted about 6.5 million, and United posted 3.2M. Hawaiian Airlines, Frontier, and Virgin Galactic did not post their flight numbers for Thanksgiving. Hawaiian airlines has been in free fall after the Maui wildfires in AUgust slashed travel excitement to the region.
Travel estimates were high this year, and proved accurate as holiday flyers returned home this weekend.The TSA reportedly screened 2,907,378 people at U.S. airports on Sunday, the highest number for any single day.The TSA has been screening an unprecedented number of passengers this year, with expectations of even busier airport security checkpoints during the upcoming Thanksgiving travel period.
Starting from Friday, Nov. 17, and running through Sunday, Nov. 26, the TSA screened about 24.5 million passengers. "We expect this holiday season to be our busiest ever. In 2023, we have already seen seven of the top 10 busiest travel days in TSA's history," TSA Administrator David Pekoske said earlier this month. "We are ready for the anticipated volumes and are working closely with our airline and airport partners to make sure we are prepared for this busy holiday travel season."
