Should I hold on to stocks for the long term!?

Is it true that holding stocks for the long term makes it easier to make a profit!?

I have seen many stocks that continue to fall in price no matter how much you hold them, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Isn't it better to cut your losses completely and try harder with the next stock if you think it's no good??
