Hold stocks for a long time!?

If you hold stocks for a long time, it's easy to make a profit! They say that, but is that true??

I've seen a lot of stocks where the more you hold, the more the stock price drops, and there's nothing you can do about it.

If you think it's no good, wouldn't it be better to cut losses to your heart's content and work hard with the next stock??
