How can we buy public company debt at big discount?

Happy Thanksgiving. I apologize if this is not an appropriate query here. My main vocation is buying real estate and real estate debt from individuals at large discounts when sellers are distressed.

Is there a way to buy the debt of distressed companies at large discounts by ourselves as well? For example, would I be able to buy WeWork debt at prices I dictate, not what a brokerage tries to sell it off for, i.e., for pennies on the dollar?
