Improvement instructions to Amazon, British authorities over treatment of food traders
July 11, 2024 at 8:10 PM GMT+9 (some excerpts)
The British Food Regulatory Authority GCA warned the US Amazon (AMZN.O) on the 11th that compliance with industry standards aimed at protecting traders is insufficient, and if improvements are not made, a formal investigation will be carried out.
In the UK, there is a standard called GSCOP (Groceries Supply Code of Practice) requiring fair treatment of traders from 14 major food retailers such as Tesco (TSCO.L), Sainsbury (SBRY.L), and Marks & Spencer (MKS.L), etc., and stipulates sudden contract changes, restrictions on contract cancellation, and proper explanation of reasons when contracts are canceled. Amazon has been targeted since 2022.
