Industrial production growth in China at a low level for the first time in 3 months
Industrial production in China in 2024/6 increased 5.3% from the same month last year, exceeding market expectations of 5%, but softened from the 5.6% increase in the previous month.
This is mainly due to a slowdown in manufacturing activity (5.5% increase compared to a 6.0% increase in May) while economic recovery was weak.
By industry, 35 of the 41 major industries, such as coal/mining/washing (4.4%), petroleum and natural gas (4.4%), chemical products (9.9%), fiber (5.1%), metal smelting/rolling processing (3.3%), non-ferrous metal smelting/rolling processing (10.2%), other transportation equipment (13.1%), automobiles (6.6%), computer/communication/other electronic equipment (4.4%), and public utilities (4.1%), etc., were positive.
On a monthly basis, it was a 0.4% increase, following a 0.3% increase in May.
The cumulative increase was 6.0%.
