Intuitive Machines stock jumps ahead of moon landing attempt

Shares of Intuitive Machines (LUNR) climbed higher Tuesday ahead of a milestone lunar mission. The company's Nova-C luna lander is on track to reach the moon this Thursday, February 22nd if all goes to plan.
Nova-C would mark the first American spacecraft to land on the moon in more than 50 years.

JULIE HYMAN: All right, let's get another ticker that's taking off today, so to speak.
JOSH LIPTON: Oh, nice.
JULIE HYMAN: Shares of Intuitive Machines rising on positive reports that the progress of its Nova-C luna lander is expected to get to the moon this Thursday. That would be America's first soft landing on the moon in more than 50 years. The shares are spiking today. They have plunged though over the last year though, but the company is aiming for a landing on Thursday, as you see the tweet there. And so a lot of optimism being built into that potential landing.
JOSH LIPTON: Yeah, not too many analysts on the Street actually covered this one, by the way.
JULIE HYMAN: It's pretty small. It's about $300 million market cap.
JOSH LIPTON: Of those who do, generally bullish. Four buys, one hold, no sell. Average price target is 8.75. Of course, the stock's moving higher today. But that was a very rough 2023. Team at Roth MKM, by the way, did recently raise their target on this one to 15 from four. So meaningfully hiked it. Thinks investors, they say, will sign a higher multiple reflecting increased confidence in future mission success.
JULIE HYMAN: Yeah. There just aren't that many ways in the public markets right now to play the space thesis, pure play certainly. And so when you get one that's actually making a little bit of progress, you tend to get people jumping on it, but we'll see if it sustains.
