CATL plans to list in HK and raise $5 billion. It will mark the biggest HK listing since 2021.
Who is CATL and why is this such a big deal? Well CATL has the world's fastest batteries, charging in under 5 minutes. Tesla is its biggest customer, accounting for 13% of its revenue, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Jeep owner-Stellantis is its second-biggest customer and makes up 7% of its revenue. Geely is its third-biggest customer, accounting for 5.3% of revenue. Nio accounts for 5%, VW 3.3%, and BMW 3.3%. Other large clients include Nissan, Honda, Great Wall, Hyundai, and Li Auto, etc.
This is great for the EV industry, as it means CATL will be able to have greater access to capital for R&D and thus will be able to lift the bar and create even quicker batteries in the future, which are essential in the EV revolution
Having quicker and cheaper batteries available to EV giants such as Tesla, VW, and BYD also means the EVs of the future will be able to go faster, travel longer, be cheaper to produce, and require less charging. For us as consumers, it's also a win. So the future is looking bright.
THIS IS HUGE NEWS TODAY. And the entire EV industry. It's just a shame the Fed meeting was the same day, and the Fed overshadowed this brilliant news.
Let's see how this plays out.
