Investing in US bonds or US debt funds?

America's national debt is already too large. However, given this year's tug-of-war of interest rate hikes and interest rate cuts, it may be a good time to buy some bond funds. After all, the entry threshold for funds is relatively low, and there are dedicated personnel to take care of them. Personal opinion, not used as an investment reference.
